I remember the many Shipboard watches I stood when in the Navy when the ship was underway at sea. The one that stands out the most was the Mid-Watch, 0000 Midnight! You worked all day and sometimes stopped working at 2000 hours-8pm. You couldn't always get to sleep and you had to relieve the Watch at quarter to the Hour. One of the highlights was Midrats, food prepared by the cooks for watchstanders. It was usually a ravioli-spaghetti type of dish. So for this I would usually get to to the galley at about 2315-11:15pm. They had coffee and bugjuice which was just like Kool-Aid. The Navy wanted you to be fed and prepared and eating food helped keep up your strength. The Watch was from 0000 to 0400am.
In my early Navy days at Sea I stood watches doing Forward and Aft Lookout watches, Helmsman and other duties. You had to maintain and stay awake for it was your duty to be alert so you could properly perform the duties set before you. As a believer in JESUS CHRIST the work of the LORD can be like being on watch. We must prepare and be ready 24/7 like my Navy days especially when at Sea but always important even when inport.
